Training trial

Training trial

In a training trial, you can explore career and education options. The purpose of the trial is to assess whether the field and education are suitable for you. The training trial is organized at an educational institution and is planned individually according to your needs.

The training trial is agreed upon in the employment plan or another equivalent plan.

During the training trial, you will receive the same unemployment benefits as when unemployed. If the training trial is included in your employment plan or a corresponding plan, you may receive an increased unemployment benefit. The decision on the additional portion of the benefit is made by the unemployment benefit provider, either the unemployment fund or Kela.

If there are costs associated with participating in the training trial, you may be eligible for reimbursement for the days of participation. If you do not receive reimbursement from your unemployment benefit provider (the unemployment fund or Kela), the employment authority may provide discretionary reimbursement for expenses.

Do the following

Contact your local employment service and ask if it is possible for you to participate in a training trial.

To whom and on what terms

You can participate in a training trial if:

  • you are registered as a job seeker.
  • the training trial is agreed upon in your employment plan.
  • the employment authority assesses that the training trial is the best way to support your employment prospects.

You will agree with the employment authority in your employment plan whether you will find a training trial placement on your own or if you need assistance in finding one.
